After conforming to the formalities of the business world for decades, the mustachioed and bespectacled Daimler chief executive has cut loose and traded in his suit for jeans and sneakers. Now everyone at Daimler can dress how they want.

Mr. Zetsche’s fashion makeover isn’t just a personal preference. It’s a sign of broader changes in Daimler’s corporate culture.
